Visa Information

Page Section

To study in Australia, you need to apply for a student visa from the Australian Government. You can find out more about this at Study in Australia or visit the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website.

Cost of living

It’s important to prepare financially for the cost of living in Australia. The Study Queensland Cost of Living Calculator helps international students estimate everyday living expenses.

Policies

The Australian Government is committed to ensuring you have an excellent education experience in Australia. Their fact sheet for international students contains important information about your rights and responsibilities while studying in Australia.

Griffith English Language Institute follows a range of policies for student support and welfare, in line with the ESOS Act and National Code to make sure all students receive the best quality education and support.

Attendance

It is a requirement that you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes. GELI monitors your attendance for each class hour (20 hours per week).

See Student Attendance (pdf) for further details.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

Student visa applicants must have OSHC arrangements in place before applying for their student visa. Allianz Care is the preferred Overseas Student Health Cover provider of GELI. You have the right to choose your own insurance provider.

Your address in Australia

While you are studying at GELI that you must provide your contact details including:

  • Residential address, mobile number and email address.
  • Who to contact in emergency situations.

You must also advise GELI of any changes to those details within 7 days.

Students with families

Some visas may allow you to bring your spouse or children to Australia. You will have to prove you can support them financially. You may need to have your children placed in a school before a visa will
be granted. Visit: studyaustralia.gov.au/en/plan-your-move/bringing-your-family
